A Time of Unity, Faith and Love

Our country, the Philippines is so blessed to have been given 5 days of the pope’s very precious time.  I was not able to personally go out to see him, but I made sure that I kept a close watch of his activities and public appearances on TV.  Even just by seeing the events on screen, and simply watching all the things that was going on out there was truly a very heartwarming sight.

The multitude of people who were all so looking forward to even just catch a glimpse of the pope even in the midst of an uncooperative weather and drenched in rain, they were all simply there—patiently waiting for the holy one’s arrival.  Over 6 million people came, all with the hope to see God’s messenger.  They didn’t mind whether they would only see him from afar, or if they would ever really see him at all.  They also didn’t mind how fast it would all be if ever the pope passed their way.  It was all an experience that was about faith, and of course love.

All the pope’s messages were so inspiring and meaningful, and each piece of his thought was simply moving as every word came from his heart.  The Filipinos deeply felt the sincerity of his concern for them, in the same way that every Filipino also genuinely welcomed the pope and his blessings.  The pope’s mere presence comforted us and made us feel that we are never alone.  What is even more touching is the thought that we are all one in prayer.  We need him to pray for us, in the same way that he needs us to pray for him.

In all those days that he was here, the pope was able to unite the people and somehow led them home to their faith, and at the same time reminded each one of us about God’s love and mercy.  The pope along with the entire nation was just such a very overwhelming sight.  It was just all so beautiful, and an experience that was simply very poignant.

A Very Unusual Day

Sudden Downpour

It was sunny when you left home, so you didn’t take an umbrella. An hour later, you’re caught in a torrential downpour. You run into the first store you can find — it happens to be a dark, slightly shabby antique store, full of old artifacts, books, and dust. The shop’s ancient proprietor walks out of the back room to greet you. Tell us what happens next!

I was still too busy checking how wet I was and was still too concerned about my stuff that got soaked as well such as my wallet, my mobile phone and the papers inside my bag when suddenly an elderly woman started to appear and began walking towards me.  The air suddenly felt creepy, and I began to forget about the heavy rain outside or how soaked I was.

I didn’t want her to feel that I was nervous and scared so I tried to force a sheepish smile and  tried to find my voice to start a conversation when for some reason, no sound seemed to come out.  My heart was pounding and my thoughts were racing as if looking for an escape.

At that moment I wished that I had a power to vanish, but there I was merely left standing and helpless.  The old woman is now very close and there is no turning back.  She gave a warm smile as if to comfort me that there was nothing to be afraid of.  I don’t know what came over me, but at that instant I gave my trust, then my voice found its way back.

I tried to ask about the shop and told her I got there, and the conversation just went on running.  She was a very nice lady after all with a very interesting shop.  I promised that I would come back again next time to visit her and maybe look at the stuff, most probably with friends, but never alone again because the creeps that I felt was not with her, but with the old stuff around.

Moody Weather!

You’re at the beach with some friends and/or family, enjoying the sun, nibbling on some watermelon. All of a sudden, within seconds, the weather shifts and hail starts descending from the sky. Write a post about what happens next.

Not knowing yet what is going on, I stayed stunned for a while then a hand touched me as if to wake me up from a slumber.  I looked up and saw a familiar face, it was my husband rushing me to move and find a place for cover.

Out of impulse, we both rushed under the bridge and found our son already waiting for us there.  Then suddenly I realized that we are facing reality, and there were those watermelons scattered on the ground, people running and having mixed emotions but certainly all of us were wondering “what the hell just happened?”.

It is not everyday that something like this happens so somehow there was also a tinge of amazement, and it became like an event where all of us were mere spectators.

What a fateful day!

Life’s Daily Grind

We often get caught up with our life’s daily grind and somehow we are simply trapped in our personal webs that we do not find time anymore to appreciate the simple things around us.  Those mundane stuff that unconsciously make us feel alive like stopping to smell the flowers, feeling the wind so close to our skin or taking a break to simply see how colors blend and create a perfect picture.

Sometimes the routines, the daily schedules and the never ending must do chores and errands hinder us from just feeling being here.  Then without you knowing it, you suddenly realize that somehow something is missing.  It is like breathing without feeling the air or eating without savoring the food. The everydayness of life sometimes seems so mechanical, and at a certain point you would just snap out and then you find yourself searching for what is real or natural or sometimes even just different.

All of us need to have a day off to unwind, to get our minds off our daily grinds because this is a way for us to keep our own sanity as well.  This can also help us get refreshed so we can once again face our realities without feeling burdened or have that sense of over familiarity of things and obligations.

I am one of those people who tend be caught up in her own web and I am also one of those who haven’t really had a day off to just be in solitude with myself without worrying about time and just doing the stuff that also matters to me personally.  But one day though, without planning or even knowing it, I just found myself being in that certain moment, not thinking about what’s going to happen next.  Instead, I just found myself looking at the flowers, then at the horizon before me and it simply felt wonderful because I realized that you really do not have to do much, but rather you only need to pause for a while and appreciate the beauty of both nothingness and fullness.

A Night to Remember

You get to plan a dinner party for 4-8 of your favorite writers/artists/musicians/other notable figures, whether dead or alive. Who do you seat next to whom in order to inspire the most fun evening?

To have a night as special as this one would probably be something that is like a dream that you do not want to wake up from because it is one dinner of great opportunity to simply be with people who have given significant contributions in their respective fields and have motivated a lot of people to do well in their own lives as well.

I would like Pablo Neruda, Isabel Allende and Mara Llanot, a great poetess from the Philippines to definitely be there because for sure, they will be able to give so much encouragement to my writing.  Maybe having a conversation with them can help me find my inspiration to write creatively again and at the same time, perhaps they can also lead me to go deep into myself and bring out my passions once again.  Aside from these great writers, i would also like some musicians to be there too like Coldplay, Imogen Heap and Sara McLachlan so they can provide some musical entertainment and add to the wonders of the night.

It will definitely be a moment filled with creativity, fun and simply pure camaraderie.

Reinventing A Mansion

You just inherited a dilapidated, crumbling-down grand mansion in the countryside. Assuming money is no issue, what do you do with it?

The first thing that I will do with a mansion of this condition is to have it renovated so that it can be fully functional again and of course to make it look very appealing because I plan to use part of the property as my residence, while the other part will be used as a place for business where I will put up a restaurant that will serve food that uses simple but quality ingredients.  The food will be something that people can remember so that they will have a reason to come back.  Aside from great food, the place will also hold unique events so that people will be enticed to visit.

Random Thoughts

I have a few moments left for myself to find words that I want to write about, and to explore the thoughts that I wish to express.  But I realize that it does not come so easy, and so what I have now are mere random thoughts.

It has indeed been a while since I had the time to be in solitude, and for now I would simply like to take this moment to feel the quiet and let my thoughts wander freely.

I have made blogs before which were usually about the events that we organized or about milestones of the cafe that I handled then, but I have never wrote a blog about my own thoughts or emotions.

Writing blogs for Rafa’s deli+cafe back then was an outlet for my creative writing, and when we closed it, I somehow lost a reason to write something about.  Although I am doing content writing now, somehow I miss the feeling of simply writing about something that purely comes from the heart because the emotions and the energies from expressing a passion can just make you feel so alive and renewed.

Now that I am a mom, I would like once again to have an avenue to share my thoughts and expressions, but this time maybe I would like to try to make it a bit more personal.
